Dear friends,
You are warmly welcome to access the CFA website and to know more about China Film Archive by the Director of China Film Archive (China Film Art Research Center), Fu Hongxing.
Founded in 1958 under the tender concern of late Premier Zhou Enlai, China Film Archive (CFA) has been developing for half century. CFA is subordinate to the State Administration of Radio Film and Television and has close relationship with the State Archives Bureau. In the year of 1980, CFA was admitted as a member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). And in 1984, China Film Archive and the Film Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts established China Film Art Research Center in a merge. Since then, the organization was named China Film Archive and China Film Art Research Center.
In the past 50 years, generations of film archivists have been doing their best making contributions to the career of film archives of collection and sort-out, research and exploitation, and cultural exchange, and formed a solid working style of “harmony, specialization, contribution and renovation.” Now CFA has built up the world largest material repository of Chinese language films of images, stills and posters. In Lintong, Xi’an, was built a large negative film material vault. CFA is the only organization under the State Administration of Radio Film and Television authorized to grant Master’s Degree. Up to September 2010, more than 100 postgraduates have been graduated from CFA and most of them have become important professionals in their working units. CFA also publishes professional periodicals and newspaper including China Film Weekly, Contemporary Cinema and Movie. And the periodicals have the function of media reporting and academic criticism in the development of film industrialization.
During the future period of “12th Five-Year-Plan”, CFA will make every effort to obtain outstanding breakthrough in the following aspects: 1. Based on the third-phase renovation of the vault areas and the construction of automated management, CFA will have an all-round raising of the management level and working efficiency of film archive preservation; 2. Database construction as core, to promote an all-round and in depth development and utilization of Chinese film archives; 3. To use the multi-media division and the Production section as carriers, creating industrial and social benefit brand name.
We hold that under the guidance of macro-policies and the Document No. 9 (2010) entitled “Revitalization Plan on Cultural Industries” issued by the General Office of the State Council, Chinese film industry is marching to a period of golden opportunity never met before. It offers a rare condition for a grand development and prosperity of film archives and research. Digitalization technology has brought in a quick integration of new-type media and multi-media, and supplies a new application platform for film archives.
CFA, besides its fundamental task, will supply the public with more scientific, active and convenient cultural service. Recently, CFA is having a large scale of enlarging and renovation of activity venue. In the near future, we’ll appear before the public with a new face.
We have gained achievements, but we need improvements and we have a long way to go. Comments are sincerely welcome!
Thank you all!
Fu Hongxing
